In an effort to catch up to Apple, Google has announced that they’re now trying to make the Google Play Store more respectable by adding new restrictions and guidelines for developers who submit their apps to the Play Store.
Google says that these changes are happening “to keep Google Play safe and secure and to better serve our developer community”.
To verify that these developer accounts are in fact created by real people, Google will now require a few extra safety measures.
Developers are now required to:
- Verify their email address
- Provide a phone number
- Provide a physical address
- Use two-step verification
BRUH. B R U H. hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
YOU ARE TELLING ME THAT, THIS WHOLE TIME, DEVELOPERS HAVENT BEEN REQUIRED TO VERIFY THEIR F**KING EMAIL ADDRESS!? WHATND FHJBSDLJFSDLF
Let’s process this together, class: As a brand new way to enhance the integrity of the Google Play Store — in a BREAKTHROUGH SECURITY MEASURE — developers will now be required to verify their email address with Google. I’m ded 😂☠️ I CANNOT.
This is just now happening? Is this real life? This whole time, this was not a base-level requirement?
Kudos for also requiring proof of address and a real phone number — bonus points for the 2FA. BUT JESUS CHRIST, my guy Google really didn’t even require a real email before?
No wonder the Play Store is a dumpster fire.
